’80s new wave pioneers Duran Duran are set to receive the tribute treatment with a new compilation featuring covers of DD classics by such acts as Moby, Juliette Lewis, Little Dragon and more.
The upcoming collection is entitled Making Patterns Rhyme: A Tribute to Duran Duran, with the title taken directly from the lyrics of the band’s 1981 debut single, “Planet Earth.” The release is scheduled to hit the streets early next year on February 25, 2014, with all proceeds earmarked for Amnesty International.
“The only difference between Duran Duran and bands like The Cure or Wire is that Duran saw the artistic edge in disco as well as early British punk and art-rock and created a blend of their own mainstream-friendly choruses, dance beats and rhythms,” raved Manimal Vinyl founder Paul Beahan in a press release. “Duran to me will always be the post-punk band that introduced Americans to British new wave and made it a mainstream brand of music in the 1980s.”
The label is also planning on releasing “limited, random-split 7 inches” from the compilation, but those vinyl exclusives will only be made available in the U.K and European Union.
